Our mission has always
been to produce canines that are beautiful to look at, a pleasure
to be around, and above all else, as healthy and physically fit as
they can possibly be.
The 4 legged members
of our family are companions, so are whelped and raised in our home.
Within the first few
years of our involvement in the sport of dogs, we soon realized that
contrary to what we'd been told by other breeders, every breed has it's fair share of genetic health issues.
By 1995, we had witnessed
hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, luxating patellas, juvenile cataracts,
spine problems, deafness, allergies, and seizure disorders.
Undeniably, every breed
has health issues and some more than others, but we quickly came
to the conclusion that health screening was the only way we could
hope to produce a structurally sound and healthy dog, so we have
consistently health screened the dogs in our
breeding program ever since.
It is important to understand
that health screened parents do not automatically produce perfectly
healthy dogs 100 percent of the time. This is especially true with
a brachycephalic and chondystrophic breed such as the French
Bulldog.
However, the odds are far
greater that a breeder will eliminate unwanted health problems from
their gene pool if they health screen and selectively breed in an
effort to diminish unwanted characteristics.
Health screening is
a valuable tool and a necessity for every breeder whose true intentions
are to improve the breed and work toward lessening the incidence of hereditary
health disorders in the French Bulldog community.
