Of all the colors
and patterns that the French Bulldog breed comes in, RED with
BLACK MASK is one of the most striking  combinations
and a particular favorite of mine, and when you are able to
combine that coat color on a physique like Nero has, it is truly
breathtaking!
In every good
breeding program, there comes a time when you must venture out and
incorporate an outcross bloodline to invigorate the gene pool.
In January 2007, I
found myself in search of a stud dog that was a complete outcross
to my current lines, and decided that if I was going to 'go out'
anyway, I might as well go completely away from the American gene
pool so out of the USA entirely.
Although I wanted a
stud dog that would be a complete outcross from my line, I
definitely wanted the dog to be line-bred so I would have a better
chance of consistency in type in the offspring he would produce
bred to my bitches.
It is very apparent
from the photos of his kids below (Navy, Scarlet, and Rockstar)
that Nero produces 'the look' regardless of what bitch he is bred
to. All of these kids have different dams, and it is
unmistakable that they are related, so mission accomplished!
I feel so very
fortunate to have found exactly what I was looking for in Nero.
He was 5 months old
when he arrived at Bullistik and I was ECSTATIC to find that he
was even better in person then he appeared in all of the
photographs his breeder had sent me before I committed to
purchasing him.
One of the most
amazing aspects of my fabulous import boy, is that I wound up with
a European bred dog that is incredibly 'American' in type with
that ultra flat face, exceptional compact body, AND as a mature
adult, he is within the weight limit for our American standard.
 The other truly
unexpected and magical quality that Nero possesses is the
'dilution allele' so he is capable of producing blue
brindle and blue fawn
offspring.
When I purchased Nero, I was not looking for that
particular element, but was fully aware that because he was line
bred on CH.
BELBOULECAN DU CHAMPAGNE MONDO,
it was a possibility that he was a carrier for 'dd' since the
majority of blue
brindle and blue fawn
French Bulldogs whelped in European countries and the USA can be traced back
to Mondo.
In Nero's first
litter, I soon realized that he was a carrier of the dilution
allele when
my vet handed me this lovely blue
brindle
baby boy on delivery day. NAVY
has matured
into a very handsome young dog, and we are proud to have bred such
a lovely boy.
It is always a
gamble when you add a new dog to an established breeding program,
so you cross your fingers, and hold your breath until you see how
the new kid is going to mesh with your own line........
.......Nero is a
complete SUCCESS story on every possible level. He is
gorgeous! He is healthy! He is physically fit! He has
an outstanding temperament! He is producing progeny that are
consistent across the board and PHENOMENAL in breed type!
And, he is able to make
RED HOT and
BLUE
kids!
Nero currently has
2 of his redheaded kiddos in the show ring, Bullistik I Don't
Give A Dam'n! 'Scarlet' (pointed) and multiple
Group Placing CH. Bullistik I Am A Rockstar.
